Thinking of Doing Something? Do it NOW!

You have to ask yourself…

How many times have you thought about doing something little and skipped over it? Thought about throwing that piece of trash away… thought about sending that quick email… thought about organizing a few things that needed organized…. thought about making that phone call to say hi… etc….

I don’t know about you, but there are tons of things I pass up everyday because I think they are too small to do.

BUT!

I have started this habit to where if it is something small I do it right away while I can.

Why?

Because the opportunity is never perfect.

I may be working on a bigger project, but if something small pops in my head to do, I will do it.

I keep finding all kinds of ways to make my life better because of it. Take your closet for instance. How many of those clothes have you not worn in the last year? For me, I had a lot of stuff that accumulated over the years. So the thought crossed my mind and I spent about 15 minutes grabbing clothes and throwing them into a big trash bag to take to Goodwill. Now I can see the clothes I want to wear more clearly and don’t have to hassle with the old clothes again.

Right now I am about to update my MEGA list of personal development blogs. I have had a few people request to be added and I just haven’t done it yet. Why? Because every time I think to do it I put it off because I am focusing more on my next post. But sometimes its good to get older posts back up to date. Especially ones people will find relevant for years to come…

I am writing this post after spending most of the day cleaning my house and getting it organized and looking fresh and clean. This kind of stuff does wonders to your soul. Yes, it may take hours to do, but you feel really good after doing it. A clean organized living space certainly lifts your spirits.

I still plan on cutting the grass and doing some trimming today. Its nice to have a well maintained lawn too. Unfortunately I had to pass up on a social event this evening to get it all done. However, I do believe I am better off doing this now because I have been exhausted from the week and I really needed to have my living space be clean and organized so I could feel more rested for the coming weeks.

I say all that to say if you are thinking about doing something, do it now! There is a reason it is bothering you and you will feel so much better after doing it. It will give you a great sense of accomplishment and will be a major on-going piece in helping you to live a better life!

  1. That’s a great idea about getting rid of the clothes you don’t use to give it to goodwill. It’s a win-win situation. And you are right, you just have to do it! I always says there is no better time than now, so just do it!

    Till then,

  2. Hi Jeremy
Great post – the problem with not doing it now is that you end up with a huge pile of undones that just get added to the next day’s list – there’s a perpetual carry over of stuff that quite likely could been done efficiently if only taken care of in the moment.
And since you’re in the process of updating your personal development blog list, I be honored if you added mine:

  3. Great post. Aint nothing to it but to do it like the saying goes. There’s a lot of things I need to get done that I’ve been putting off. Thanks for the inspiration.

  4. Again I can’t protest against your post. This is good advice for all irresolutes. There is a thing that makes us thinking about something for large period of time and – the longer we thing, the most probable becomes that we will do nothing. Acting at once has many benefits including a fact that we will eventually do what we wanna do. Thinking too much is always a threat to acting.

  5. If honestly speaking Lots and lots of time i was thought to doing something, firmly decided but not reach at goal because my laziness and lack of management i was fail but post like here always works like fuel for me since log time i doing very well what i have thought.

  6. Good advice. If you keep tackling every small task that jumps up, you can keep improving everything. It’s when you ignore those tasks that you get discouraged of suddenly having too much to deal with. Finishing tasks gives you that sense of accomplishment that pads your self esteem too.
