Meeting Chris Guillebeau on His Art of Non-Conformity Book Tour

Just yesterday I had the honor of meeting Chris Guillebeau, Author of the book The Art of Non-Conformity.

He talked for about 15-20 minutes then opened it up for a Q&AA (attempted answers) session…

He emphasized two things at the end of his talk…

One was that efficiency is overrated. He gave an example of someone waking up earlier so they could read all their RSS feeds before work. He also mentioned along those same lines that work/life balance is overrated because if you enjoy your work you don’t worry about the balance so much.

Second he said that we should all ask ourselves the question… “What is our unique contribution to the world?”

I think that is a great question and it is something I am always thinking about, especially in regard to Insight Writer. How am I contributing? What are my readers getting out of this? How are they making positive change in their lives?

It was a really great evening and I got to meet some awesome people including some other local bloggers…

  1. I meet Marjorie right after the talk was over because she had mentioned she was a web designer. Actually she owns her own company in a creative niche. Designing visual models for the transportation industry. Her blog is called twohundred.tv. She also plans on going to Chris’s world domination summit in June up in Portland, Oregon and said I should go as well. We shall see…
  2. The next person I met was Cynthia of Original Impulse. She was the one to introduce Chris. She is a writing and creativity coach, specifically for women, and seems like a great gal all around. She gave me a little fortune that says, “Your Muse is your best friend.” I would say so. My Muse has gotten me this far! 😉 She also said she liked my website name, Insight Writer, and that sure made me smile a big smile!
  3. I also got to meet Liza of Lizaplusayan.com. These guys are living the life! I love their web page and how they are creating their own lifestyle from what is important to them. Liza is an acupuncturist. Acupuncture is something I’ve always wanted to experience, being very interested in Eastern Medicine, and I think it’s about time I did it. She also mentioned that she hosts community dinners and that I should take part in that as well. I think I will. 😉

One of the best things about the internet is the ability to easily connect with like minded people. Chris is building his tribe, I am building mine, my 3 fellow bloggers are building theirs….

Are you building your tribe?
