Did you know you are never fully dressed without a smile?
It is true. Think about it. A person never really seems fully a person until they smile at you. Then they are no longer a stranger, but an acquaintance.
What does this have to do with personal finance? Everything really…
One of the greatest things my dad ever taught was that all business is people business. It doesn’t matter what you are selling. Cars, ipods, insurance, popsicles, etc. It is all people business.
Without people there is no business. Without people there is no money. Without businesses and people you wouldn’t have this thing called personal finance. See where I am going with this?
This might not always be true, but generally speaking, the better relationships you have with people, the better your personal finances are.
People that are bad with people don’t get very far in life.
People that have trouble developing relationships with people have trouble getting jobs. They have trouble getting loans. They have trouble getting a place to live. And the list goes on. In effect they have trouble getting ahead in life.
What is one of the best ways to improve your relationships with people?
Smile more! 🙂
Smiling helps you make friends. Friends help you get jobs. They loan you money for a bus pass, or help you get a loan on a car to get to work. They help vouch for you when it becomes time to rent a decent place to live.
Smiling and being a friend pays BIG dividends. Like the saying goes, a friend in need is a friend indeed.
So try smiling a little bit more… a little bit longer… at a few more people…
Step out of your comfort zone and make it a habit. This is one of those things you won’t believe until you try it and see it working.
Don’t do it for one day and give it thinking it doesn’t work. People see right through that. Be genuine and smile at some people for goodness sake. Make it part of the way you live and interact with people.
People will melt over time. Their cold exteriors will eventually warm up to you. And perhaps they will be people who will help you on your journey in life. You really never know.
So smile more and watch it pay dividends in the long run…
